I am one of those who hit this migratary trail, first from my small town to a big city in the country of my origin and from there to a wider world, looking for opportunities.
it is 7 years since I bid goodbye to my village life. few regrets about living my youthful years far away from home, mum and all that had helped shape me up to be what I am though I missed them all these years. like all migratory peoples I had no choice, and life progressed spiraling through the time lapses between the eternal hope of making it back to the roots and the abject despair over dreams getting lost or losing sheen.
I like Oman, I love muscat. but the desire to settle back in the village where I think I belong has never got lost in the occasional glitter's of an alien life. the vast lush green rice fields, the dense, cool coconut grooves, the chirpings of the birds that wake you up in the morning, the moos of the cows that graze in the meadows, the quacks ot the ducks that swim in the new sparkling waters of the paddy fields, the dripping hens taking shelter after getting wet in the unexpected showers, the ponds that swell as the heavens open up in june, the fish that welcome the first rains jumping out of the ponds into the frying pan, the snakes that lurk in the dark, winding alleys, the villagers who toil in the fields planting the saplings, their innocense and their wickedness, the dusty roads, the ample space, the fullness and the emptiness, the noise and the silence, the gossips, the brawls, the rumours.... I miss the quietude of the village life, the vivifying air from the fields, the vast verdure, the blithe atmosphere, the scent of the flowers and the fruits emanating from the surrounding, the chirping of birds, barking of dogs, the cries of the animals and the stillness of the night life. That experience is one of the most unforgettable facets of my life which I would love to relive. there is an unforgettable irresistable and unique charm about village life.
I live my presant to get back to this past and make it my future. small town mindset, but this is made me what I am, my identity in this world, my links to this big mass of matter........
